Description of Service

Velocity modeling is important aspect in the cycle of seismic interpretation. Seismic velocities conversion, well velocities utilization and corrections- everything affects the final output. So, experienced interpreter only can generate a reliable velocity model.

The best workflow which Ameyem followed to build velocity model is given below. This workflow is best suited for every developed or exploration block. Depending on the client requirements Ameyem can deviate from this workflow if need be there.

 

Loading of Stacking velocity & QC:

Usually in exploration blocks and less likely in development blocks there are different vintages data need to be used. Stacking velocity of various vintages need to be merged. This can be done before loading or after loading depending on the ease. But before that, you may need to delete vintages which are grossly dissimilar.

 

Velocity conversion upscale to model grid:

After loading and QCing the data one needs to Upscale the data. This is usually done in following steps.

  • Upscale the Average velocity property to structural 3D grid, which was prepared using the time horizon and fault plane grids, for further processes
  • Upscale well average velocity deduced from T-D relation in the wells wherever it exists

 

Kriging and Co-Kriging:

Kriging and Co-Kriging are so far best methods available for interpolation. We recommend using these methods almost in every velocity modeling work.

  • The average velocity to be Kriged using the modelled variogram for realization of the same where it has not been sampled
  • Collocated Co-kriging method to be used to realize the well velocities throughout the 3D grid ussing the trend of Seismic average velocity grid

 

Velocity model:

Finally a velocity model can be built with velocity modeling module using the average velocity property and the time surfaces from Datum to below the deep target horizon.

 

Depth Conversion:

The resultant velocity model can be used to depth convert time grids and these resultant surfaces further used to prepare well tied depth structural model, as the simple depth grids do not represent actual depth model.
