MUD LOGGING GEOSTEERING ADVANCED SERVICES.

About COLUMBINE CORPORATION

Columbine Corporation was founded in 1981 as a regional provider of mud logging and well-site geologic services for the D-J Basin and central Rockies.  By 2011, Columbine’s reputation for quality and integrity placed it as the region’s premier mud logging, geosteering, and well site service company.  With the advent of horizontal drilling, Columbine was perfectly positioned to grow and adapt with the cutting edge demands of the industry.  We quickly expanded into most of the major basins of the US, and our operations extend from Pennsylvania to Nevada and from North Dakota to southern Texas.  Currently we have five regional offices located in Midland, TX, Denver, CO, Weatherford, OK, and Canonsburg, PA. Columbine’s success is tied to three principles.

  • Experienced Staff - Through a rigorous process we hire the best geology and basin experts available and continue to train and support our staff.

  • Technology - We are constantly reviewing new technologies to ensure that our clients receive the best information possible to maximize their return on investment.

  • Communication - We are committed to client satisfaction. Our quality control programs drive continuous improvement for every client.

Our Mission

As one of the premier geological well-site service companies in the country, we are driven to provide the highest value to our clients . Our professional well-site geologists utilize a massive team of resources and tools to provide the best in class and integrated formation evaluation services. We consistently strive to maximize our customer’s return on investment by delivering the most detailed subsurface geological data in any area. We promote a culture of integrity, dedication, collaboration and safety.

Description of Services

Drawing on over 30 years of experience, we have the requisite expertise and skilled personnel to operate the best equipment and technology available to deliver on the most demanding drilling projects.

  • Mudlogging Services

Our mudlogging services are designed to aid your geologists and engineers in the field to make timely and informed decisions regarding drilling operations.  Our field geologists construct and maintain highly detailed mudlogs throughout the project with customizable data traces tailored to your unique specifications.  We utilize a host of data monitoring and interpretation services for exploratory and drilling data, including Gas & Chromatography, Gamma, ROP, in addition to several other critical drilling parameters. Columbine Corporation offers live logging which enables real-time access to the working mudlog from anywhere in the world, allowing clients to monitor and track projects.

Columbine is equipped with your choice of gas detection and logging systems.  Every system we deploy is accurate and robust for precision chromatography.

  • On-site and off-site geosteering

Columbine Corporation offers both on-site and remote geosteering services.  On-site steering is performed on the rig by our trained and experienced mudloggers.  Remote geosteering is delivered from our command center by experienced geologists, all of whom have previously mudlogged.  Our staff of professionals have a resume of wells which include most basins from Ohio to Nevada, and North Dakota to Southern Texas.  There are also customized schedules that may be negotiated for night, weekend, and vacation fill-in.

WELL-SITE GEOSTEERING SERVICES INCLUDE:
Communicate and direct time critical changes to wellbore inclination
Plot and monitor gamma and/ or resistivity to calculate and anticipate dip
End of Well (EOW) geosteering report with entire well bore path, ROP, TG, GR, in zone stats, structure, tops and lithology
Pick formation tops, and distinguishing members
Discuss variation in in lithology to enhance well placement
Make available knowledge of basin drilling difficulties
Discuss known solutions for geology related drilling issues

REMOTE GEOSTEERING SERVICES INCLUDES:
24/7 two-man geosteering guidance from Columbine’s command center
Use of various geosteering software to assist in saying in-zone, and on-plan including StarSteer, SES, and ZoneVu
Monitor time critical changes to wellbore inclination and communicate with the operations geologist
24/7 geosteering communications and availability to company geologists, directional drillers, and company man
Well to be correlated after every survey and lateral correlation shall be cross checked against formation after every survey
Report to company geology team every six hours (or as requested) to include: standard data, geosteering geologist’s opinion of quality of current target, target adjustment suggestions, recommended direction changes (as necessary), and snapshot of the current interpretation.
Additional communication plan- calls to operations geologist from geosteering geologists
At least once per shift to discuss correlations
To alert possible problems such as change in gamma or resistivity, significant formation dips, changes, or faults, day or night
Geosteering End of Well (EOW) report with entire well bore path, Rate of Penetration (ROP), Total Gas (TG), Gamma Ray (GR), in Zone stats, structure, tops and lithology
Technologies:
Columbine Corporation offers a wide variety of technology choices to keep our clients on the cutting edge of drilling science.  We are also continuously evaluating new instruments to add to our list of services.

  • Advanced Cuttings and gas analysis

MASS SPECTROMETRY
Mass Spectrometry is an analytical instrument we use to provide advanced data beyond the C1–C5, CO2, and H2S provided from the Bloodhound.

The Mass Spec provides:
C1-C10 petroleum species; standard gas ratios
BTEX compounds and organic acids
Inorganics including N2, Ar, O2, H2O, CO2, He, and H2
Sulfur bearing compounds including SO2, COS, and CS2
Formation gas vs. drilling mud and additives
Bit generated gas
90 second cycle time; 10 ppb sensitivity
Depth-based and time-based data

CALCIMETRY
Experimental method used in many carbonate lithologies to determine the percent of limestone, dolomite, and non-carbonate rocks in the formation.

XRF/XRD
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) measurement for elemental analysis by on-site instrument or laboratory test.

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) mineral identification, including clay species, by laboratory test.

IsoTube/IsoJar
In line gas sample collection method for advanced analysis of gases off-site, or cutting sample preservation for future testing off-site.
