Mubadala Energy has announced the discovery of a major natural gas find in Sumatra, Indonesia.
The discovery was from the Layaran-1 exploratory well drilled deep offshore, with a well depth of 4,208 m and a water depth of 1,207 m. Reservoir characteristics were: pay thickness - 230 m; formation - oligocene sandstone; initial flow rates - 30MMcfgpd.
This is the second major discovery for Mubadala in the area, following their previous success with the Timpan-1 in Andaman-II well.
“This is not only a significant development for Mubadala Energy but a huge milestone for Indonesia’s and Southeast Asia’s energy security”, Mubadala Energy CEO, Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed, said.
