Social media company, X, (formerly called Twitter) said it is ending its operations in the country of Brazil effective immediately. This is due to a legal dispute the company has with Brazil’s supreme court justice, Alexandre de Moraes. Alexandre wants X to block the accounts of certain individuals whom he accuses of disinformation. X said the individuals include a pastor, a sitting parliamentarian, and the wife of a former parliamentarian.
X said Alexandre has threatened their country representative in Brazil if they do not comply with his request. “As a result, to protect the safety of our staff, we have made the decision to close our operation in Brazil, effective immediately”, the company said in a post on X.
The X service however will still remain open and available to the general public of Brazil, the company also said.
