BlackBrush Oil & Gas, L.P. is an independent oil and gas exploration and development company headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Founded in 2004, the company currently operates approximately 360,000 gross acres throughout South Texas, one of the country’s fastest growing unconventional basins with best-in-class economics, and is active in the Eagle Ford shale, Austin Chalk and other formations.

BlackBrush is operated and partially owned by a seasoned management team, each with 25-37 years upstream operational experience in South Texas and led by its Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Scott Martin.

Description of Services

Departments:

  • Accounting/Purchasing

The BlackBrush accounting department is responsible for processing, tracking, approving and paying over 1,000 invoices each month that are generated from BlackBrush’s operations. In addition, the department accounts for all the oil and natural gas sales and processes over 500 royalty checks each month.

  • Commercial

The Commercial Department contracts and manages BlackBrush trucking and pipeline arrangements for crude oil, natural gas and NGL's. In addition, it oversees bids and contracts for sales of BlackBrush's produced oil, natural gas and NGL's and manages Blackbrush’s hedge portfolio.

  • HR Admin

The HR Department is responsible for recruiting top talent, onboarding as well as exits, benefits and payroll administration and compliance with associated government regulations. The Legal Department serves as the Company’s advisers, managing the day-to-day legal needs of the Company.

  • Exploration/Development

Exploration and Development is the hallmark of BlackBrush Oil & Gas, LP. Our Drilling and Engineering departments collaborate with Geology to access the target formations and how to approach drilling the wells to properly test and evaluate the target reservoirs.

  • Land Office

We are always looking for mutually beneficial land relationships. Our mineral and land owners are our partners and we work to maintain a good relationship by providing constant communication and a high level of service.

  • Swab/Production

BlackBrush’s production department assumes responsibility of the oil and gas wells after drilling and completion operations are finished. Our team consists of a group of engineers along with seasoned field supervisors, operators, and well technicians who utilize the latest technology and implement industry best practices to produce, and deliver to market, oil and gas in a safe, efficient, cost effective, and environmentally conscientious manner. BlackBrush owns and operates two workover rigs and one swab unit staffed by highly experienced crews which affords us the competitive advantage of being able to better control the quality and cost of our well intervention operations while adhering to consistent and rigorous safety standards.

  • Completion

The Reservoir Engineering Department is responsible for Reserve Reports and Economic Analysis for company owned assets, new well models for budgeting and planning purposes and acquisitions and divestures. The Completions Department plans and executes hydraulic fracturing operations or other completion methods necessary to put new wells on production.

What we do

Operation Highlights

BlackBrush was the first to successfully complete Austin Chalk horizontal wells in Karnes County. Austin Chalk reserves are estimated at greater than 855 MBOE/well.

BlackBrush was one of the first two companies to economically develop the horizontal Olmos with IPs of more than 1,000 boe/d.  More than 120 horizontal Olmos locations identified; began downspacing to 800’ in 2014.

BlackBrush was the first company to successfully drill and exploit the horizontal San Miguel using GASFRAC technology to improve well performance and reduce flowback and disposal costs. BlackBrush owns the license for HGL fracking for the lower 48.

37 horizontal wells have been drilled as part of the San Miguel Project. More than 450 locations have been identified.

BlackBrush operates over 130,000 net acres “early-stage acreage” with significant upside potential in southern Frio county and Chittim Ranch in the Dimmit / Maverick and Washington, Austin, Fayette county areas.

BlackBrush is the operating partner for Shell Oil Company in the Company’s Chittim Ranch acreage, currently drilling several EagleFord wells on the position.

BlackBrush was the leader in Under balanced drilling by drilling nearly 40 horizontal Buda wells and utilized under-balanced drilling techniques including coil tubing under balanced drilling in 2014. Most of the wells drilled today by BlackBrush use MPD (Managed Pressure Drilling) allowing BlackBrush to evaluate the well while drilling and eliminate damaging the formation with lost fluids.

BlackBrush engages in petroleum exploration, exploration and searching of oil and gas, oil and gas field exploration, surveying, testing and prospecting,  The company also drills saltwater injection wells and engages in oil and gas field operating services, namely, cementing services for oil and gas wells, construction of structures for the production and storage of crude oil, construction, maintenance, and construction project management services in oil and gas fields, drilling, pumping and extraction of oil and gas, drilling of deep oil and gas wells, installation of oil production apparatus, oil pipeline laying and construction, and oil well casing and tubing installation.
