Chemostrat Inc. !

The world leader in chemostratigraphy and provenance providing high quality geological services around the globe. Data. Analysis. Solutions.

About Chemostrat Inc.

Founded in 1994 by Dr. Tim Pearce, the company's original aim was to provide a professional, petroleum industry-orientated chemostratigraphic service. Over the past 30 years Chemostrat has built an unrivalled understanding of analytical technology and interpretation of geochemical and mineralogical datasets. Our key staff have gained strong research experience in the fields of sedimentary geochemistry, mineralogy, modern stratigraphic methodologies and sediment provenance, allowing us to develop a complete chemostratigraphic service deliverable from laboratory to wellsite.

Chemostrat remains a specialist chemostratigraphy company but has also developed an integrated workflow for the forensic comprehensive characterisation of strata. This includes mineralogy (petrography, QXRD, FTIR, Raman light and heavy mineral analysis, automated mineralogy (SEM-EDS) and image analysis). This is routinely combined with Chemostrat data (derived from either HH-XRF, ED-XRF and ICP-OES+ICP-MS) geochemistry capability and supplemented by geochronology (U-Pb dating of zircon, titanite, garnet apatite and carbonates) and /or C-O and S stable isotope stratigraphy. These techniques are applied in a tailored workflow and are integrated with biostratigraphic, seismic and sedimentological data to provide clients with a geological interpretation. To ensure, that all aspects of a multi-disciplinary project are addressed in a fully professional manner, Chemostrat works with a network of top-class geological consultants. This working regime ensures that a pool of experts in each discipline are available to tailor the interpretation to the individual needs of the project. This forensic subsurface workflow has also been adapted to provide high resolution sub-biostratigraphic correlations in CCUS and H2 applications.

Chemostrat has operational centres in Houston, Calgary, and in Perth Australia, and operate via our JV (Future Geoscience - FGL) in Cairo and Kuala Lumpur.

Chemostrat is also a leading supplier of mineralogical, geochemical, TOC and isotopic data for clients having establish a revolutionary ‘shale workflow with Chevron. This research has been enhanced with the development of outputs for cuttings porosity, geomechanics and synthetic Sonic and DENs logs and a seismic response curve.

Chemostrat can provide high quality training courses in chemostratigraphy, XRD, analytical geochemistry, provenance analysis.

Chemostrat's unique multidisciplinary reservoir characterisation workflow (Sandtrak®) is based on use of ICP, Raman, QXRD, geochronology and automated mineralogy. These techniques are utilised by our experienced team to provide forensic solutions for reservoir connectivity, source to sink provenance studies, controls on reservoir quality, CCUS applications and to supplement integrated stratigraphic models. Chemostrat also developed a unique analytical workflow to evaluate shale gas plays (that combines chemostratigraphy with isotope geochemistry (C, O, S), TOC, QXRD, FTIR and RockEval data to aid completions). This workflow that has been adapted and now deployed regularly to aid wellsite operations.

In 2001 Chemostrat invented wellsite chemostratigraphy and established the LaserStrat ® service have Halliburton. In 2012 Chemostrat initiated its own independent wellsite service, and this has been deployed extensively across the world including North Sea, Canada, US, Africa and Australia. We have completed over 50 wellsite deployments. Chemostrat also a unique integrated biostratigraphy/chemostratigraphy wellsite service (via FGL) with its partner PetroStrat Ltd.

Chemostrat has completed over 40 regional multi-client studies in the North Sea, Barents, West of Shetlands, Grand Banks, East Africa and have commercial datasets from Alaska, GOM, MENA, Australia and the Far East.
