Marcellus Shale

The Marcellus Shale, located beneath much of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia, is one of the richest natural gas reserves in the world. With over two million gross acres and 27.6 trillion cubic feet of proved reserves as of December 31, 2023, EQT leads in the responsible development of this vast resource.

Operational Footprint:

Pennsylvania

EQT owns or leases more than 1,000,000 net acres in Pennsylvania. Most of the acreage is located in the southwestern region of the state, with the majority located in Greene and Washington Counties. EQT is actively developing the Marcellus Shale in this area.

West Virginia

EQT owns or leases approximately 600,000 net acres in West Virginia. Most of the acreage is located in the northwestern region of the state, with the majority located in Doddridge, Marion, Marshall, Tyler,  and Wetzel Counties. EQT is actively developing the Marcellus Shale in this area.

Ohio

EQT owns or leases approximately 150,000 net acres in eastern Ohio and is actively developing the Utica Shale in Belmont County.

Once EQT’s wells are operational, our commercial team, EQT Energy, manages and optimizes commodity revenues.
