The origins of FlexSteel products trace back to the early 1940s when the first spoolable steel pipeline was installed under the English Channel to transport fuel from England to France. This pipeline project, known as Operation PLUTO (Pipeline Under the Ocean), marked a significant innovation in pipeline technology.

In the 1970s, the next generation of spoolable steel pipe was designed for deepwater flow lines and risers in the oil and gas industry. Decades of successful use in demanding offshore environments led to the development of FlexSteel for onshore and shallow water pipeline applications.

Full production of FlexSteel began in 2003, introducing a product that combines the flexibility of pipe with the durability of steel. In 2012, a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was established in Baytown, Texas, expanding production capabilities and enabling the installation of more than 100 million feet of FlexSteel pipe worldwide.

In February 2023, Cactus, Inc., a NYSE-traded premium energy equipment manufacturer, acquired FlexSteel, ushering in a new phase of growth for the business.
