GRi Simulations Inc. is a Canadian company focused on real-time simulation, modeling and visualization of critical marine activities to support increased process efficiency and operational safety.

Founded in 1986, GRi’s initial focus was on developments in bathymetric surveying using semi-submersible platforms. In 1997, GRi began work on the Virtual Remotely Operated Vehicle (VROV) Simulator System, an instructional platform for the training of ROV pilots with unparalleled dynamic realism. With this advance, GRi began its focus on computer modeling and simulation of subsea operations.

GRi has subsequently been characterized by its ability to innovate based upon the unique challenges and opportunities of its clients, solidifying VROV’s status as an industry-leading ROV pilot training tool while adding dimensions of situational testing and mission rehearsal to its utility. With the introduction of iDEA-FDK, an advanced 3D design and visualization tool, GRi has created a platform by which VROV simulation and high-fidelity engineering analysis tools can facilitate field layout designs, promoting the environmental and operational objectives of oil and gas projects.

IDEA- FDK

The IDEA-FDK (Interactive Design, Engineering and Analysis – Field Development Kit) is an advanced 3D design and visualization tool for offshore oil and gas projects. It equips users with a powerful set of tools specifically tailored to provide solutions for the design and visualization needs of offshore oil and gas developments and their associated operations, thus increasing overall project awareness and enhancing operational safety and productivity.

 

 

 

VROV (Virtual Remotely Operated Vehicle)

VROV is a 3D interactive real-time simulation system which supports the complete range of AUVs, Inspection and Work Class ROVs, and the full spectrum of sensor and intervention subsystems. Since 1999, VROV has set the standard in interactive, real-time subsea simulation, featuring fully interactive tether dynamics, manipulator functionality and high-fidelity sonar and graphics simulation.

 

 

 

Inspection Class ROV Simulation

Inspection Class ROVs demand a training simulator with capabilities equal to the importance of the tasks they perform. . They are used to facilitate the safe and efficient undertaking of activities where the use of work class ROVs or divers is not advisable or not possible. These ROVs have application in sectors as diverse as the oil and gas industry, law enforcement, research and exploration, and the military.

 

 

 

LARS Simulation System

The VROV supports Launch and Recovery System (LARS) operator training. The LARS is mounted on a vessel when RAO information can be entered, providing a realistic platform for training.

 

 

 

VROV Hardware Interface Options

VROV communicates directly with the user’s preferred control console and interface to provide a user-oriented training experience. The system exchanges information in the same format as real-world ROVs, delivering realistic training and analysis. VROV integrates on a component level for the ultimate in system testing.
