HIGH TECH, INC !

Supplier of high quality hydrophones and data acquisition instrumentation.

About HIGH TECH, INC

High Tech, Inc was founded and incorporated in the state of Mississippi in 1989. From its inception, it has supplied the Navy and the worldwide seismic community with high quality hydrophones and data acquisition instrumentation. High Tech has continued a steady growth since the beginning and is recognized as an industry leader in deep water hydrophones and acquisition systems.

Our family of engineers, technicians, and production personnel strive for total customer satisfaction through Service, Dependability, and Total Quality Management. At High Tech, a variety of test equipment is utilized in both subassembly and final assembly test procedures to assure that the work performed meets or exceeds customer's expectations. High Tech products and systems have been selected to meet the stringent requirements of military applications including Anti-Submarine Warfare, Propulsion Noise Test Systems, Torpedo Testing, Marine Ambient Noise, Arctic Noise Monitoring and Surveillance.

The worldwide seismic industry has utilized High Tech hydrophones and systems as a cost effective and versatile means of performing deep and shallow water geophysical surveys. Current military users range from research facilities to operational commands. In association with marine fisheries organizations, High Tech has developed transducers both for marine mammal monitoring and as enforcement devices for monitoring compliance with Federal and State regulations.

High Tech, Inc. moved in 2012 and began operating in its new 25,000 square foot facility situated on 6 acres of property in Long Beach, Mississippi. We have strong relationships with local lending institutions and the business community. Over the years, we have formed strong relationships with vendors and manufacturers, securing quality sources of needed parts and components. High Tech's success has been recognized in 1997 by the local business community by receiving the "Mississippi Gulf Coast Small Business of the Year" award. In 1998, it was recognized for its worldwide contributions by receiving the "Mississippi Exporter of the Year Award." It received the "Mississippi Export Achievement Certificate," awarded by the US Department of Commerce, in 2004 and 2010.

Description of Services

Products:

  • Hydrophones

Over 200,000 units have been manufactured and deployed with excellent results in government and industry applications. The hydrophone/preamplifier assembly consists of piezoelectric ceramic cylinders which form the hydrophone active acoustic element. The preamplifier is mounted inside the ceramic cylinder and interfaces the active element to the signal conditioning electronics via an underwater connector.

Each model features an integral Faraday shield for EMI rejection and improved crosstalk performance. The ceramic cylinders are radially polarized MIL-C-1375 Type I material. With end caps, the enclosed cylinder forms a small pressure vessel which houses the preamplifier assembly. This "air backed" design is capable of withstanding pressures to 10,000 psi.

The preamplifier itself is a transconductance amplifier design which eliminates the need for separate power and signal conductors. Preamplifier power consumption is less than 48 mW based upon 12 VDC. Conventional 3-wire voltage mode amplifiers are also available. Completed assemblies are encapsulated in polyurethane and pressure cycled to operating depth prior to calibration.

Options

  • Customer specified connectors/cables
  • Custom mounting configurations
  • Customor specified frequency response
  • Customer specified sensitivity
  • Differential, Voltage, or Current Mode Preamps
  • Calibration injection port
  • Acceleration canceling configuration
  • Dual sensitivity
  • Low power (2.5 mW)
  • Complete acoustic test and calibration

  • Data Acquisition Systems

High Tech, Inc. has developed and manufactured autonomous data acquisition systems for recording marine seismic data using vertical or horizontal bottom-mounted cables.

These autonomous data acquisition systems feature:

  • Wide bandwidth - up to 50 kHz
  • High channel count - up to 96
  • Surface buoy or seafloor operation
  • Low noise
  • Battery or shore power supply options
  • 24-bit A/D converters

Flexibility is built into the design. Systems may be customized to suit a wide variety of data acquisition requirements. The recording systems are compact. No special handling equipment is required.

Sample Applications:

  • Ambient noise measurements
  • Marine mammal detection and monitoring
  • Signal / noise field characterization
  • Active source acoustic and seismic studies

  • Acoustic Sources

The Deep Water Acoustic Source is characterized by wide bandwidth, high output, exceptional reliability, and full ocean depth capability.

The Naval Research Laboratory has operated one of these sources for over 10 years. The Deep Water Acoustic Source is a Helmholtz Resonator type transducer with output from 250 Hz - 900 Hz at 201 dB re: 1 uPa @ 1 m.

Output can be a swept chirp or a pulsed contant frequency, capable of achieving spatial resolution on the order of 5 meters. This source will operate in water depths up to 6,000 meters or 19,685 feet. The output waveform is calibrated and highly repeatable. The Helmholtz Transducer is made up of a stack of five piezoelectric ceramic rings inside an oil-filled rubber boot. Each ring is pre-stressed so the ceramic remains in compression while operating.

The Deep Water Acoustic Source bridges the gap in scale between convential surface-tow seismic systems and high resolution sidescan systems. This source has applications in high resolution sub-bottom seismic studies such as:

  • Geotechnical studies for sea floor structure emplacement
  • Gas hydrate distribution and characterization
  • Sub-bottom geologic processes

This source can also be used in acoustic applications. For example:

  • Acoustic characterization of the sea floor and ocean subbottom
  • Acoustic tomography
  • Acoustic backscatter studies

The physical dimension of the source are 0.7 meters in diameter by 1.08 meters (3.5 feet) in length, weighing 812 kg (1790 lbs) in air and 612 kg (1349 lbs) in water.
