2). Quantitative Interpretation

Predict rock properties from wells and seismic.

Gain better understanding of the subsurface by building data-validated geological models to help you make the best decisions to maximize your exploration success, production outputs, reservoir performance, and fluid sequestration efficiency.

Ikon brings more than 20 years of Rock Physics expertise with many of the world’s super-majors, NOCs and independents as well as our multidisciplinary experience in pore pressure and geomechanics to our client’s projects. Our bespoke, proven workflows deliver some of the most accurate outcomes in the industry, backed by our world-leading geopredictive software.

Conditioning

The initial phase of our projects involve gathering, analyzing and establishing a framework for the interpretation of geologically meaningful information from well and seismic data. Data may be damaged, missing, or not yet in optimal condition for use as input into quantitative workflows. Our diagnostic plots highlight, assess, and track improvements as data are refined.

Modeling

Variations of rock and fluid properties are explored to understand how changes in mineralogy, porosity, pore-filling fluids, net-to-gross, TOC, and other properties affect the seismic response. Guidelines for seismic horizon and amplitude interpretation are generated to guide multi-disciplinary workflows, while full 3D property model or 4D sim-to-seis comparisons are generated to demonstrate the understanding or accuracy of complex reservoir models, or support design plans for future data acquisition.

 

Prediction

Our service team strives to tackle non-unique seismic problems and predict properties with a sense of confidence and deep understanding of uncertainties. We provide value by embracing the project objectives, understanding the data, maximizing precision by utilizing the most appropriate technology, and delivering results on time and within budget.

  • Petrophysics analysis for standardization, multi-well and multi-formation interpretation of properties such as mineralogy, porosity and saturations using calibrations from core and lab data when available

Capture, Utilization and Storage

We characterize the physical and mechanical properties, chemistry and structure of the subsurface to determine the feasibility of subsurface storage prospects and inform effective location screening. Our multidisciplinary team brings an understanding of where to place injection wells to best navigate cap-rock, sealing capacity, fault-seal integrity, fracture limits, and stress states to safely utilize your reservoir.

Injecting Expertise

We utilize rock physics and 4D analysis to determine the acoustic/elastic rock properties of reservoirs and their sensitivities to fluid/CO2 saturations to give the greatest understanding of the impacts from injecting. Our real-time monitoring capabilities enable clients to effectively predict, track and monitor plumes and other geomechanical changes to the subsurface over time.

Geothermal Services

Ikon Science can perform feasibility screening of basins with geothermal resource potential. Utilizing our bespoke workflows we deliver an understanding of where overpressure is predicted, the permeabilities of the reservoir formations, methane saturation of the formation brine and formation temperatures.

Over-Field Geomechanical Feasibility

Re-utilization of existing fields and infrastructure requires an understanding of the potential impacts of compaction from any structures on the transformed subsurface. Ikon’s rock physics and geomechanical expertise can determine site feasibility and define parameters for safe and sustainable engineering of structures in over-field environments.

Dedicated Workflows and Outputs

Our team of experts help your team understand risks and investment decisions around storage capacity, injectivity, and site integrity for CCUS or overpressures, permeability, saturation and temperatures in geothermal feasibility.

We have utilized our RokDoc software to develop bespoke workflows for activities across the energy transition spectrum. From monitoring drilling pressure and stresses in real-time for geothermal or image and predict plume behaviour and build technical due diligence for regulator review of CCUS, our experts can help you efficiently navigate the subsurface.
