A brief History

1960 - Founding
Midland Marine Corporation was founded in 1960, specializing in Inland Chemical Tank Barge chartering, Sale and Purchase of Marine Assets, and Shipyard Representation.

1986 - L&R Chartering
L & R Chartering, Inc. was founded specializing in American Flag Tanker and Inland Barge Chartering and Marine Consultancy.

1996 - Purchased L & R Chartering
In 1996, Midland Marine Corporation purchased L & R Chartering, Inc., at that time one of the preeminent American Flag Brokers in the marketplace.

1998 - L & R Midland
In 1998 Midland Marine Corporation and L & R Chartering, Inc were merged to form L & R Midland, Inc., one of the largest Domestic Brokerage Houses in the country specializing in all manor of American Flag Tanker, Offshore Tug and Barge and Inland Tug and Barge Chartering.

In 2015 L & R Midland (UK) Ltd was chartered in London to further develop the opportunities for Shipyard Representation on a global scale.

Our Departments
- Offshore and Inland Chartering
L & R Midland’s Offshore and Inland Chartering departments are skilled in all manner of contracts of affreightment. We assist owners and charterers in the transport of oil products (clean and dirty), clean and water white chemicals and petrochemicals. Offshore covers U.S. flagged ships and offshore barges trading along all US coasts while, Inland covers vessels along rivers and intercoastal waterways.
- Shipyard Marketing (US/UK)
L&R Midland US and UK shipyard representatives specialize in the solicitation and negotiation of vessel and offshore equipment planned or emergency repair, conversion and upgrading through our exclusive international shipyard agreements.
- Sale, Purchase and Consulting
Our team of experienced brokers have over the years been involved in hundreds of vessel transactions and can provide sales and purchase support services for all types of marine assets, ranging from small harbor tugs and barges to large tankers and bulk carriers, drill rigs and FPSO’s.
- Offshore Projects (Local/Global)
L&R Midland offers a full range of brokerage and advisory services to clients in the offshore oil and gas industry, based on close to 40 years of experience and an extensive international network. We cover all market segments, from seismic via exploration and field development, to production and decommissioning.

As well as our Sale & Purchase Consulting Group specializing in the marketing and selling of inland and offshore marine assets (OSV’s, Offshore Tugs, Towing/Push Boats and Tank and Hopper Barges, Deck Barges ect.) and various other marine consulting services.
