Advanced Time to Depth Conversion
Well Tomo (WT) offers a workflow to tie seismic velocity volumes to available well data. Since the approach is to run tomography on top of an existing velocity model, the method is very robust. It involves a shooting of vertical ray from geological boundaries to datum to estimate T-D for velocity inversions. The method is accurate and de-risk seismic from any artificial stretch and squeeze.
Multiple node points are planted on the sub-surface to shoot normal rays from surfaces to the datum. The ray-tracing involves computation of travel time matrix, which are inverted to update the input velocity models.
Step 1 Focus on the creation of geophysical well tops from synthetic seismograms, preparation of the horizons, and interval velocity for input to the ray tracing.
The velocity model updates away from the wells were controlled by the mis-ties gridding process (step 2). Different gridding methods can result in vastly different mis-tie maps. We deploy AI and other tools to derive the best geological plausible residual maps.
Well tomography (step 3) is basically an inversion of travel times computed through shooting normal rays to back-propagate and update the input velocity model.
