Whop, an online marketplace that sells digital goods and services announced it has raised $17 million in a series A round.
While major ecommerce platforms like eBay, amazon and Shopify are mostly focused on the sale of physical items, Whop believes there’s a need for an ecommerce platform that focuses on the sale of digital goods and services. Examples of digital goods and services would include things like online travel deals, restaurant deals, sponsorships, crypto, sport bets, etc.
One of its founders, Steven Schwartz described the company as being a “comprehensive online platform aimed at connecting sellers and buyers within the digital economy”.
The company is currently valued at $100 million and has 1 million buyers and 3,000 sellers, and does $100 million in gross transaction volume.
