The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has fined Lyft, the ride-hailing company, $2.1 million. The fine is regarding Lyft’s deceptive marketing practices regarding how much drivers will earn, when in actual fact drivers earned much less than the advertised rates. For instance, in Los Angeles, Lyft advertised that drivers would earn $43 per hour, however, they actually earned $30. In another state, New Jersey, Lyft advertised that drivers would earn as much as $34 an hour, when actually, they were making only $25 hourly.
Even though a small amount for a company like Lyft, the fine is meant to send a message and get the company to correct their practices.
