In a surprising U-turn from its previous policies, Meta, the Facebook parent company said it will stop fact-checking and moderating contents on its platforms. Joel Kaplan, Meta’s chief global affairs officer said in a blog post that the company will do away with its fact-checking program and instead implement a Community Notes model, which is what other social networks like X are using.
By implementing these changes, Meta aims to remove the guardrails it had once implemented and intends to make its platforms more open to free speech without censorships. The changes are reportedly seen as a move to appease the incoming Trump administration.
