Applied Geoscience provides geologically plausible velocity models deployed for De-Risking Depth Conversion.
For static modeling, geoscientists need to derive a geologically plausible velocity model, which ties to all the available data, including seismic, well, and geological data.
Technically we aim to derive a single consistent model to be used for different applications, including seismic imaging, inversion to elastic and rock properties, and pore pressure/shallow hazard prediction.
However, all the velocity models are non-unique. Several models can fit the data equally well, especially in areas where the seismic information is limited or insensitive to the commonly used “gather- flattening” criterion. In other terms, many possible solutions exist and the cause lies in the fact that we do not have enough data to determine the optimum velocity model. This model uncertainty then propagates into the seismic image.
